Jonesboro, AR

Joneboro, Arkansas was a success! I spent my whole day working with the good people at the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society. To start the day I helped clean the dog cages. “It smelt great!” Said nobody… ever. Fighting through the typical smell of walking into a humane society in the morning, I was able to help the staff move the dogs from their inside cages to their outside cages. Once that was done, we sprayed the cages with soap, thoroughly rinsed them with water, and then dried them. After that, we were able to bring the dogs back in.

After a lunch break, I headed to the city of Bono, where the NEA Humane Society recently set up an emergency shelter. Several weeks ago, the NEA Humane Society took in 32 dogs that were being kept by a recently deceased dog hoarder. These dogs were not in good shape physically or emotionally when they were brought in. Thanks to the staff and volunteers, these dogs now have a safe place to stay and are slowly beginning to trust people again. Knowing the circumstances that surrounded these dogs, it was cool to see the progress that they have made. Two weeks ago, they would not go near people. Yesterday, they were eating treats out of my hand.

My experience in Arkansas has given me a greater appreciation for the work that is done at humane societies. Most of the work they do is behind the scenes, so they do not get the credit they deserve. However, without the staff and volunteers, many animals would be out of luck. So thank you to all the humane society workers, especially those at the NEA Humane Society.

Thank you to Jesse for your incredibly generous hospitality. Thank you to Margaret for treating me to lunch. And as always, thank you to all of you who continue to pray for me and support me during this journey. This would not be possible without you!
